{MatthewsMatthews Elementary School PreKPre-K Points to remember:
Welcome to the Matthews Elementary School Pre-kindergarten family. We consider it an honor to be working with your family and your child this school year. Please refer to this sheet throughout the school year as a reference to program and class requirements. Also, please refer to the Bright Beginnings handbook for program requirements and expectations. We are always available to help and answer any questions you may have. Please do not hesitate to contact us via phone, letter or email if you ever have any questions or concerns. If you have an immediate concern or issue that arises during the day, please contact the school office. The school phone number is 980-343-3940.
    Everyday:
-Check your child’s folder. Read, take out and keep any notes that are sent home.
-Sign and return any notes or papers that need to be signed.
-Read to your child and log any books you read on your child’s reading log. Reading logs are to be kept in your child’s folder everyday. Books are to be sent back every Friday.
-Discuss and sign behavior calendar everyday. Calendars are to remain in your child’s folder.
-Place any notes you want us to receive in your child’s folder.
-If your child brings home soiled clothing please replace it the next day.
    Staggered Entry
-Staggered Entry Days: August 31st, September 1st, and September 5th
-Every child will be assigned one staggered entry day. On this day your child will attend school with 4 or 5 other classmates. They will attend school for the entire day on their staggered entry day. Buses will pick up and drop off on staggered entry days. Your child is only to attend school on the staggered entry day that they are assigned. They will not attend both staggered entry days.
-First day for all students: Wednesday, September 6th
    *Transportation*:
-Arrive at bus stop 10-15 minutes prior to the pick- up and drop-off times that are listed on your child’s bus tag.
-An adult 18 or older must be at the bus stop in the AM and PM. If an adult is not at the PM stop your child will be brought back to school and you will have to pick them up.
-If your child is brought back to school 3 or more times they will lose their transportation privileges.
-Please make sure that your child’s bus driver and teacher are aware of the person that will be picking them up in the afternoon.
    - If someone other than the person that usually picks up your child will be picking them up, please notify your child’s teacher in writing.
-It is mandatory that students wear both bus tags (back pack and necklace) throughout the entire school year.
-Car riders will need to keep the car rider flyer inside their car window.
-If for some reason your child needs to be a car rider instead of riding the bus as they normally do, please notify us by sending a note. Please be consistent with your child’s transportation to avoid confusion.
-All visitors must sign in at the front office prior to coming to the classroom.
    *Folders*:
-Folders need to be checked and returned to school daily. Any notes or information that you would like us to receive should be placed in your child’s folder. It is very important that all notes are placed directly in the take home folders, not in your child’s book bag. We will check take home folders everyday but we are unable to search book bags.
-We recommend that you use Paypams to pay for your child’s lunch. If you send lunch money, we ask that you place it in an envelope. Label the envelope with your child’s name, lunch, and the amount enclosed. Place the envelope in your child’s folder.
    *Physicals and Immunization Records*:
-We must have a copy of your child’s current immunization records and a current physical.
    *100 books*:
-It is a Bright Beginnings Program requirement that every child reads 100 books.
-We will send home a Ziploc bag with 5 books every Monday. It is very important that books are returned on Friday.
-Please log any books that you read to your child on their reading log.
Remember to write the date, title, and sign your full name for each book that is listed on your child’s reading log.
-Reading logs need to stay in your child’s folder everyday.
    *Behavior Calendar*:
-Behavior calendars will be marked green, yellow or red daily indicating what type of day your child had at school.
-Behavior calendars should be reviewed and signed daily.
-Behavior calendars must stay in your child’s folder everyday.
    *4 Parent Events*:
-It is a Bright Beginnings Program requirement that you attend at least 4 parent events
    during the school year.docx} year.
    - Attending parent orientation and a parent-teacher conference in October are both required events
-You may volunteer in the classroom, eat a meal with your child, or attend any school event to fulfill this program requirement.
-In order to volunteer you must register on the CMS website.
-When volunteering you must sign in the office before coming to the classroom
    *Attendance*:
-It is very important that your child attends school everyday unless they are ill or there is an emergency.
-Please be sure to enter your child’s absence online on the school website. (go to the Matthews Elementary School website and there is a tab for report absence)
    -http://schools.cms.k12.nc.us/matthewsES/Pages/Default.aspx – School Website
-Absences and tardies will be monitored,
-If your child misses school because they are ill please send a note the following day.
-Whenever possible we do ask that you inform us if you know in advance that your child will be absent from school.
-If your child needs an early dismissal please send a note indicating the reason and time. They will need to be signed out in the office.
-We will only release your child to people that are listed on your child's information sheet. Please feel free to add to the list whenever necessary. Any one picking up your child will need to have an ID and sign in the office before picking them up.
*Please keep all of your contact information current. Also, be sure to keep all of your emergency contacts information current.*
